Echoes in the Storm Kindle Edition
Duke Harwood wants nothing more than to rediscover the world he left behind when he donned his fatigues and lost himself to a war that was never his to win. Although the further he drifts from the comfort of routine, the more he retreats into the combat zone that thrives inside his mind.
When Duke breaks down on the side of Cammie’s road, fate delivers them a hand that neither can ignore. A free-spirited dreamer, and a closed-off realist—two souls with seemingly nothing in common except for the ability to drive the other mad.
Why is it then, when it comes time for Duke to leave, neither of them knows how to say goodbye?
"One week is all we were supposed to share. One week as strangers. Yet you became so much more."

About the author

For as long as she can remember, Max has always had a love of the poignant and thought-provoking side to life.
Which probably stands to reason why each of her books take the reader on an emotional rollercoaster that not only promises twists, turns, and suspense but a heart-wrenching journey where her motto holds true:
Love never comes easy.
When she's not lost in an alternate world - fuelled by coffee and the odd sneaky bowl of chocolate (preferably M&Ms) - she spends her days as a wife to a dedicated husband, mother to two rambunctious boys, and an obsessive petrolhead enjoying the muscle on display at the local car shows.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 April 2018What a beautifully written book with amazingly developed characters! The story just drew me in, emotional at times but ultimately with a happy ending. Anyone with regrets about their past couldn’t help but be moved by this story of Duke and Cam.
I can’t wait to read another book by this gifted author.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 September 2017Heartfelt tragedy, and the coming together of two tormented soles. It didn't make me cry, but I devoured it and didn't want it to end. Love this author's work, and as I'm on a budget it's a bonus this book is available through K.U.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 September 2017Two people dealing with their own demons, both living a life in limbo and fear, and desperate to move on but clinging on to the past like a security blanket.
If your looking for action, alpha male, or a typical romance you won't find it here, what you will find is a simple but beautifully written romance with good characters and dialogue.
It was short in my opinion but sweet and with a few more chapters and details of what the characters were thinking, I think it would be a real tear jerker romance.
It's emotionally charged neither the less and worth a look, if you like grounded simplistic romances.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 September 2017This book! I have to admit it took me a little while to get into it but once I was I couldn't put it down. It was well written, the characters well developed and the storyline was emotional! My poor heart! Another great one that I thoroughly enjoyed. I can't wait to see what's next.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 September 2017Oh wow...this book had me hooked from the beginning. The emotional pain both these characters share is heartbreaking. You could literally almost feel their pain. Once these two found each other it was a journey they had to go through together to come out the other side. The loss each faced was different but had almost the same debilitating effect. It was wonderful to read as they fall together and then stand on their own two feet and finally stand together. A very well written and poignant story of love and loss and the after effects of war. Highly recommend this book.

I would recommend this book to anyone but would suggest reading it somewhere you are comfortable crying!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Heart filled emotional read.
This is a beautiful read. Two broken people who have a chance meeting and somehow they open up to each. I won’t say much more as I don’t want to spoil anything. Just make sure you have some tissues with you when you read this one. It’s gut wrenching and beautiful rolled into one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Storm.
I seriously love books where you have to keep reading to figure out what's going on. This book pulls you in with the unknown. There is so much that you just don't know, but it's all done in such a good way. Definitely one of those reads that you don't want to put down you just want to keep reading to find out exactly what's going on.
Cammie you can tell she is punishing herself in some way. Duke is a mystery of all sorts, you get built up to him being in the military.
This story has so much tragedy coming from both sides of it all. I mean you think you get it all then there is another twist or turn in it all and more sadness to add to it all.
Cam and Duke are way cute for one another, and just the way they have been brought to each other, broken and trying to figure out where to go next.
I love how they slowly show eachother there dark pasts and they exept them and try to help eachother cope and work through them. They don't jude one another or make them feel like they are less then....
The slow burn, and the build up you feel coming between them is so amazing and just HOLY SMOKES! These two have so much going on between them. Then when you realise, Duke is still leaving when the car is fixed it is honestly crushing. Especially from Cams side like she is not good enough.
Though when you actually read and see the why and realise the bigger picture of it all you see just how much they needed this.
The ending of this is just beautiful!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly Beautiful Story!!
This book is an amazingly beautiful story. It’s the kind of book that draws you into the story and you feel like you are part of it. You ride every emotional wave alongside the characters. Well done Max Henry, seriously, Well done!!! I loved it although my poor heart felt like it was going to explode out of my chest most of the time!!

5.0 out of 5 stars “Living life afraid of the what-ifs is letting death win before you’ve even reached the final act.”
“You need to own up to what you did.”
Jared’s words to Cammie in the teaser I’d read made me feel sick to my soul for her, and I knew I just had to read this book. There is so much more behind that heart-breaking teaser than just the formation of the words. There’s the context to consider, and that is exactly what Duke did when Cammie told him her story.
Two broken people, marked forever by significant events in their lives, yet it is something within each other that does what other people haven’t done, or couldn’t do, in their lives: find resolution and the possibility of healing.
The depth of feeling in Echoes extended way into my soul. Both Duke and Cammie have each suffered what no one would wish upon their worst enemies, and have been left with nightmares, guilt and feeling so lost, that the way home may never be found again. My heart was broken and all I could do was cry.
Yet the backbone of this book is hope, and love. Duke and Cammie each had mothers who totally loved them, but were at a loss as to how to connect with their adult children who had suffered so much. In being together, maybe the ghosts of their pasts can be laid to rest, but, sometimes healing has to be a journey taken alone.
5 Stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Damaged souls crossed paths
An interesting read about 2 very damaged souls. Both stories are equally devastating and it due to this, I needed to keep reading. This book drew me in completely as I needed to find out why the characters were the way they were.
Definitely going to read Max Henry's other books.
